主题：Berkeley, USC, or Penn State? [17]

選擇大學真頭痛﹐ 兄弟姐妹  help
I’ve always been a middle-top student, not the brightest of the bunch yet not on the bottom either. However, this senior year in high school I’ve been slacking off and am beginning to doubt my ability to survive as a college freshmen. My biggest goal is to go on to medical school after I graduate.

1. UC Berkeley- It’s kind of far away, but cheap tuition. What I worry about is the "cut-throat" competition of a UC. Can someone who knows UC Berkeley offer some insight? What lures me the most to this school is its fabulous reputation.

2. University of Southern California- it’s close, cheap, with good, not spectacular reputation. Although this school is not as hard as Berkeley, I’m still afraid that by the end of 4 years, my GPA is not high enough for med school.

3. Pennsylvania State University- it’s really far away, expensive. But I’m accepted into a 6 year program which, after 2 years at Penn State, I get to go straight to Jefferson Medical School without further application. It offers more assurances for me to become a doctor.

Any thoughts or opinions?

  no idea,but one of my friend is in penn state right now. it is not that hard if you make effort on it,berkely seems like a little bit tough.if you wanna go to med school, it is not doubt that u should get a really high GPA,in my personal opinion, u should go to a scholl that not that hard and you can be able to handle it.

thanks everyone ﹗ although i am accepted into uc berkeley﹐ I’m not sure if i’m biting off more than i can chew. Penn State does sound like a nice school in which i’ll have a more relaxed opinion. Any opinions about USC? I have a hard time pinpointing its difficulty level.

obviously berkely has the best reputation... 名气大.. 可是你要是不想学的太拼命,可能要考虑一下~ 我的建议是去看看学校,accept的时候学校不是都会给revisit dates,学校的academics固然重要,可是你的四年生活也很重要啊~
 
我只知道berkely很好很难进,那既然你已经被录取了,我觉得你应该可以负担的了把... USC 我是完全不知道,但是penn state的medical好像还不错,我男朋友现在在那上 premed,(好像不是你那个program) 天天听他吹penn state 多好多好~ 汗~ 不过有一点也要说明的,penn state的premed campus是单独的,前不着村的那种小town,可以说是比较的... 咳... 深山老林... 和那个很大的main campus 完全两回事. 不过,就是不知道你那个program会不会单独在别处了.
 
ps,我也是senior,9月份要去columbia..

进berkeley是我的梦想，但是我太懒了不愿意学。明年我也该进大学了，我在OH。我又该何去何从呢？sighing~~~~~~~~~~~

Berkeley--my dream school... but too expensive for me, since I’m out-of-state... since tuition is not a problem for u, I strongly suggest u go there...  Its reputation is top-of-the-line, and I doubt its course difficulty will differ too much from UPenn...

I assume that you have been accepted in all these schools and trying to decide which one you are going to choose.
 
Berkeley is no doubt "cut-throat".  However, if you are worried about that competition now, I don’t think you can make it to med school since the competition is going to be even tougher.  If you want to get into med school, be prepared to be in for the long haul.
 
As far as I know, USC is filled with a lot of Asian students and as one of my friends put it "it’s a school of spoiled brat."  And frankly, I don’t know how you define "cheap" since the tuition of USC is twice that of Berkeley.
 
Penn State is a big ten school and in fact, it’s not that expensive, at least not as expensive as USC.  The good thing is that you don’t have to fight for another spot in med school after four years.  The downfall, however, is that you may change your mind about med school say in 2 years.  Then you will be stuck in this program.  
 
If I were you, I would definitely opt for Berkeley

Is Penn State University Park considered a top school in Pennsylvania? and to 美美﹕ How is the academic life over there? Difficulty level? Do you enjoy the setting of the campus?

NO DOUBT.UC BERKELEY.
TWO OF MY CLASSMATES ARE IN UCBERKELEY AND IF YOU WANT I CAN INTRODUCE THEM TO YOU.BUT THEY ARE NOT IN MEDICAL SCHOOL.I KNOW WELL HOW CRAZY THOSE GUYS IN PREMED SINCE I HAVE BEEN TA FOR PREMED SCHOOL FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS.I AM SURE YOU COULD’T GET IN MED SHOOL IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE DILIGENT NO MATTER WHICH ONE YOU CHOOSE.
